Senior Buyer

Our client in the Port of Spain area is seeking to onboard a Senior Buyer on contract.

Job Purpose/ Objective

The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing and optimizing procurement processes using SAP software. The role focuses on the sourcing and purchasing of goods and services, along with managing vendor partnerships. The Senior Buyer plays a critical role in ensuring that procurement operations are aligned with the Company’s policies and strategic goals, thereby contributing to overall business performance.

Roles/ Responsibilities:

Procurement Activities:
• Manage end-to-end procurement processes using SAP modules (e.g., MM – Materials Management).
• Source, evaluate, and select suppliers to meet company requirements for quality, cost, and delivery.
• Issue purchase orders, track shipments, and manage invoices through SAP.
• Ensure on-time delivery of goods and services while maintaining quality standards.

Vendor Management:
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with suppliers.
• Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with vendors.
• Monitor vendor performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.

Inventory and Material Management:
• Work closely with internal departments to forecast material needs and manage stock levels.
• Monitor inventory levels to ensure materials are available without excessive stockpiling.
• Optimize material flow and minimize procurement costs.

Cost Management & Reporting:
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements in procurement processes.
• Prepare reports on purchasing performance, material costs, and vendor performance.
• Analyse market trends to adjust sourcing strategies and negotiate improved commercial terms.

Compliance and Risk Management:
• Ensure compliance with Company policies, local laws, and industry regulations.
• Monitor and manage risks related to procurement processes, including supply disruptions and quality issues.

SAP System Usage:
• Use SAP modules (such as MM) to manage procurement transactions and maintain accurate data.
• Perform regular updates and system maintenance to ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with IT and SAP support teams to improve processes within the SAP system.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support departmental and organizational objectives.

Job Specification/ Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or related fields.
• Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) certification will be considered an asset.
• 3–5 years of experience in a procurement or supply chain role (preferably within an oil & gas environment).
• Experience with global supply chains and managing international suppliers.
• Knowledge of sourcing and procurement best practices.

Technical Skills:
o Proficiency with SAP software and procurement modules (particularly the MM module).
o Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
o Knowledge of costing and pricing methodologies.
o Strong negotiation skills.
