Human Resource Generalist

This Human Resource role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes within the organization. This role plays a key part in shaping company culture, ensuring legal compliance, supporting staff, and driving HR strategies that contribute to organizational success.

Employment type: Permanent
Location: Port-of-Spain
Salary range: $12,000 to $14,000

Recruitment & Staffing

  • Manage the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and onboarding.
  • Develop and maintain strong talent pipelines for future hiring needs.
  • Partner with department heads to identify staffing needs and job requirements.

Employee Relations

  • Serve as the main point of contact for employee concerns, conflicts, and workplace issues.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment.
  • Manage disciplinary procedures, performance concerns, and conflict resolution.

HR Policies & Compliance

  • Develop, update, and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws, regulations, and best HR practices.
  • Maintain accurate employee records and documentation.

Performance Management

  • Oversee performance appraisal processes and support managers in setting KPIs.
  • Provide coaching, training, and development programs to enhance employee performance.
  • Identify skills gaps and implement training initiatives.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Administer payroll, benefits, and compensation programs.
  • Review and recommend improvements to compensation structures.
  • Manage leave systems and ensure proper documentation and approval workflows.

HR Strategy & Culture Development

  • Support leadership with organizational planning and HR strategy.
  • Develop initiatives to promote employee engagement and retention.
  • Lead HR projects such as wellness programs, recognition initiatives, and cultural events.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Associates Degree/Diploma in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • HR certification is an asset
  • 3–5+ years of experience in HR leadership or management roles
  • Strong understanding of labor laws and HR best practices
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Approachable, empathetic and fair.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
