Accounting Analyst

Location: Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago

Job Summary

Our client, located in the Chaguaramas area, is seeking a qualified and experienced Accounting Analyst to support its finance operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, performing reconciliations, supporting payroll and treasury activities, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax laws, and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Recordkeeping and Reporting

• Prepare and review journal entries, ledger entries, and account reconciliations.

• Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded and documented.

• Monitor and analyse account balances to identify discrepancies or irregularities.

• Support month-end and year-end closing activities.

• Prepare financial statements, reports, schedules, and summaries accurately and within established deadlines.

• Maintain and update the fixed assets register.

• Prepare financial schedules and supporting documentation required for tenders.

2. General Accounting

• Monitor daily bank balances to ensure sufficient funds for operations and support effective cash management.

• Perform regular bank reconciliations to verify account accuracy.

• Process bank transactions, payments, and collections.

• Maintain relationships with banking partners and financial institutions.

• Assist with invoice processing, expense reports, and payments.

• Support collections and follow up on outstanding receivables.

• Manage petty cash disbursements, reimbursements, and recordkeeping.

• Process payroll calculations, ensuring employee wages and statutory deductions are accurate.

3. Audit and Tax Compliance

• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.

• Assist with internal and external audits by providing the necessary documentation and explanations.

• Support tax filings and ensure adherence to applicable tax laws and regulations.

• Maintain accurate financial records to support audit and compliance requirements.

4. Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality (HSSEQ)

• Support the company’s HSSEQ initiatives, policies, procedures, and activities.

• Promptly report unsafe conditions to management.

• Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety vests, hard hats, safety boots, and safety glasses, when visiting vessels or ports.

• Adhere to general office safety procedures and requirements.

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the finance department.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, or a related field.

• Currently pursuing ACCA Level II or above.

• Minimum of four years’ experience in an accounting environment.

• Working knowledge of accounting and payroll software.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

• Knowledge of applicable tax and VAT laws and regulations.

• Comprehensive understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
