Financial Accountant
Reports to: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: East, Trinidad & Tobago
Salary: TT$20,000 – TT$25,000 per month (commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Job Summary

Our client, a highly respected and established organization, is seeking to appoint an exceptional Financial Accountant to join its finance leadership team. This is a pivotal role for a highly motivated finance professional who possesses outstanding technical accounting expertise, strong commercial acumen, and proven leadership experience within a large, fast-paced corporate environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safeguarding the integrity of the organization’s financial reporting while providing strategic financial insight to support business growth and operational decision-making. This individual must be capable of managing complex financial reporting requirements, leading a high-performing finance team, strengthening financial controls, and driving continuous improvements across the finance function.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate must possess:

• ACCA or FCCA qualification (Mandatory).
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (preferred).
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling, reporting, and data analysis.
• Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics, Microsoft NAV, or comparable ERP systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of:
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
  • Corporation Tax legislation
  • VAT regulations
  • Internal control frameworks
  • Corporate governance principles
  • Financial reporting best practices

Experience

Applicants must demonstrate a proven track record in the following areas:

• Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in a Financial Accountant or equivalent senior finance position.
• At least five years’ experience leading and developing finance teams.
• Previous responsibility for supervising teams of more than ten employees.
• Extensive experience preparing, reviewing, and signing off IFRS-compliant financial statements and annual audited financial statements.
• Proven experience preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax, VAT, and statutory compliance submissions.
• Significant experience managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while consistently meeting strict reporting deadlines.
• Strong experience preparing annual budgets, rolling forecasts, management accounts, Board reports, and executive financial presentations.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating internal and external audits, resolving audit findings, and implementing recommendations.
• Previous experience within a large corporate, manufacturing, retail, FMCG, distribution, or multi-entity organization.
• Strong exposure to cost accounting, inventory management, profitability analysis, business performance reporting, and capital expenditure management.
• Proven success improving financial controls, streamlining reporting processes, and implementing operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the overall financial reporting function by:

• Leading the preparation and review of statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS and regulatory requirements.
• Managing the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting cycle while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
• Preparing executive management reports and Board reporting packages that support strategic decision-making.
• Overseeing all month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring compliance with reporting deadlines.
• Reviewing general ledger accounts, trial balances, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure financial integrity.
• Preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax, VAT, and all statutory tax filings.
• Managing the organization’s internal and external audit processes, including audit planning, preparation of schedules, resolution of audit findings, and implementation of recommendations.
• Acting as the primary liaison with auditors, regulatory authorities, and external stakeholders on financial reporting matters.
• Leading the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, cash flow projections, and long-term financial plans.
• Performing detailed financial, profitability, margin, variance, and trend analysis to support executive decision-making.
• Partnering with operational leaders to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve overall business performance.
• Developing and enhancing financial reporting frameworks, cost allocation methodologies, and management reporting tools.
• Leading, mentoring, coaching, and developing members of the finance team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Strengthening financial governance, internal controls, compliance, and risk management practices.
• Identifying opportunities to improve financial systems, automate reporting processes, and increase operational efficiency.
• Supporting strategic initiatives, capital investment decisions, annual operating plans, and business transformation projects.
