{"id":22076,"date":"2019-05-08T21:44:27","date_gmt":"2019-05-09T01:44:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.evecaribbean.com\/?p=22076"},"modified":"2024-10-21T05:37:30","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T09:37:30","slug":"employee-recognition-reward-the-gift-that-keeps-on-giving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/evecaribbean.com\/gy\/askeve\/employee-recognition-reward-the-gift-that-keeps-on-giving\/","title":{"rendered":"Employee Recognition &amp; Reward: The Gift That Keeps on Giving"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>\u201cA person who feels appreciated will always do more than is expected.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s an\nexercise for all employers, managers, and supervisors: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 1: On a sheet of paper 8.5\u201dx11\u201d or larger, write, type, print, draw\nor paint the above quote. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 2: Repeat phrase until memorized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 3: Display in a highly visible location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Step 4: Show your staff appreciation and see it become a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know\nthat appreciation (esteem) falls into the second tier of Maslow\u2019s Hierarchy of\nNeeds (just above our need for love and belonging and under \u2018self-actualisation\u2019)\nas a basic human psychological need? We all have a need to feel valued in our\nrelationships and the relative importance of and proportion of time spent at\nour respective jobs makes our workplace\/career one of the most important areas\nof our lives for the fulfillment of that need. &nbsp;Do you feel appreciated on your job? Do you\nregularly and openly express your appreciation to the employees you supervise?\nManagers should keep the above quote in mind when it comes to their interaction\nand relationship with those in their team since staff appreciation can make a\nworld of difference in the workplace and you don\u2019t need to have a degree in behavioral\npsychology to know that the positive reinforcement of any behavior leads to\ncontinued repetition of that behavior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s not just psychological theorizing either. Research\nstudies and employee surveys have shown time and time again that feeling\nappreciated is a key driver of employee engagement in the workplace. Employee\nengagement (not to be confused with the more superficial \u2018employee satisfaction\u2019)\nis the extent to which employees feel passionate and enthusiastic about their\njobs, are emotionally committed to the organization and its goals, and put\ndiscretionary effort (above and beyond the minimum required) into their work.\nDoes this sound like you or your staff? If it doesn\u2019t then your organization\nneeds a lesson in appreciation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What makes employees feel appreciated? A fair wage and\nannual salary increases don\u2019t even scratch the surface. Companies must find\ncreative ways to compensate employees beyond the regular entitlements of compensation,\nbenefits and perks to recognition and reward. Showing regular appreciation for outstanding\nwork is the first step in creating what is considered to be \u2018a great work\nenvironment\u2019, that is, a corporate culture that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>recognizes good work and behavior with perks and words of encouragement, <\/li><li>provides a setting where people feel they can be heard and where they are allowed to take ownership of their work, <\/li><li>makes them feel that they have a real purpose and are a valued member of the team, <\/li><li>gives them the opportunity to grow personally and career-wise<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This scenario describes a workplace where one could expect\nemployee engagement to be high &#8211; a place that employees <em>want<\/em> to come to everyday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/evecaribbean.com\/gy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Empl-R-and-R.jpg\" alt=\"How Employee Recognition and Reward eventually leads to improved business performance\" class=\"wp-image-22079\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The formula is simple. The impact is proven. Employee engagement is a key driver of organizational performance improvement.
