Production Worker
Summary
To perform a variety of tasks required to manufacture paint, and operational
functions that constitutes the production, inspection and distribution of paint and
paint products for customers.
Location: The position will be based at Guyana head office.
Dimensions: The Production Worker will report directly to the Production Supervisor.
Responsibilities:
1. Packaging Preparation
a) Must know the location of all packaging materials e.g. pails, lids, handles, labels,
bar codes, etc.
b) Demonstrate clear understanding of Quality Control (QC) standards for labelling)
as depicted in the Physical Labelling Standard and the Packaging Specification Manual-HPIL-IRD-06 which is kept in the Laboratory and the ability to accurately identify packaging material physically and by stock codes.
c) Accurately record stock quantities received or delivered and ensure that accurate records are kept of stock being used- e.g. labelling of pails for batches, records kept in the Labelling Logbook HPIL- FRM-200 and for labels received the Packaging Logbook HPIL- FRM- 05B and signing off on commercial invoice for incoming shipments.
d) Assist with preparation of cans for canning finished products.
e) Organise storage of all packaging and labelling materials and must know all packaging standards as depicted in the Physical Labelling Standard and the Packaging Specification Manual-HPIL-IRD-06 which is kept in the Laboratory.
f) Keep an account of raw materials and packaging materials used.
g) Ensure that all products carry correct bar code information and batch code.
h) Package products according to requirements of the factory in a timely manner.
i) Note low stock levels/outages and alert management accordingly.
2. Raw Material Selection
a) Be knowledgeable of raw materials code system and standard weights and packages.
b) Be familiar with raw materials storage areas and effectively record and organize storage of incoming raw materials.
c) Select, weigh, and record raw materials for stock lists or batch cards.
d) Comply to the relevant Health and Safety regulations in the classification of materials regarding hazards, correct use of personal safety equipment and handling methods, and ensure full compliance regarding storage and handling of raw materials.
e) Accurately record stock and participate in stock counts when required.
f) Note low stock levels/outages and alert management accordingly.
g) Instruct and give guidance to junior staff in all aspects of raw material selection and oversee the work of junior staff.
3. Filling
a) Demonstrate correct methods for filling by weight or volume to meet specifications.
b) Use manual and semi-automatic equipment efficiently to meet factory demands and QC standards.
c) Accurately record yields on batch cards and quantities filled in respective package
sizes and be observant to ensure that packaging material conforms to QC standards.
d) Ensure that all equipment is adjusted, cleaned and stored correctly (this will include volumetric fillers, strainers, valves, etc.)
4. Machine Operation
a) Possess full operational knowledge of all machinery used in the department, together with all safety requirements, features and precautions.
b) Operate all machinery safely including any machine settings and adjustments to ensure product conforms to all QC standards.
c) Make simple adjustments where necessary and be aware of signs indicating machinery malfunction.
d) Maintain familiarity with maintenance schedules and procedures and carry out daily checks on machinery used within the department, especially cleaning to ensure trouble-free operation.
e) Ability to instruct and give guidance to junior staff in the production process and use of machinery.
5. General Duties
a) Learn and perform assignments in accordance with established health and safety, company policies and procedures.
b) Refer to work order or procedural instructions appropriate for each job, function, or assignment before commencing work and perform work in accordance – that includes performing specified quality control and assurance checks.
c) Maintain good housekeeping, orderly conditions, and clean work areas in assigned work sites including production & warehouse.
d) Assist with the loading and off-loading of containers as may be required.
e) Assist in periodic and end of year stock takes.
f) At shift end, ensure equipment has been turned off and secured as per company policy and procedure.
g) Ensure Maintenance and service records of equipment assigned. e.g. scales, Fire Extinguisher, eye wash stations, etc.
Qualifications / Experience
At least five (5) CXC with General level passes of Grades I, II or III including
Mathematics and English along with at least five (5) years of related work
experience.
Skills, Competencies and Requirements
1. Good oral and written communication skills.
2. Ability to use a computer.
3. Knowledge of MS Office applications.
4. Ability to utilize the Sage ERP System in all areas of the roles.
5. Experience in the Painting and Manufacturing Industry.
6. Ability to follow work rules, work independently, be flexible and be willing to perform
variety of jobs.
7. Ability to use machinery/equipment required.
8. Ability to regularly lift up to 100 pounds manually.
9. Good physical health and strength.
